The benefits of Myofascial Release (MFR) are countless. Because MFR is effective at various levels of our internal structure (superficial, intermediate, deep/cellular), it can benefit conditions at every level. Whether you’re suffering from superficial pain, cellular dysfunction, deeper pain within a muscle or joint, MFR can be of benefit to you.
MFR is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure upon the fascia or connective tissue restrictions, to eliminate pain and to restore motion, by the elongation of the fascial fibers.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures, create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures. These tensile pressures rarely show up on many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)
The use of MFR, allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments, during which our physical therapists use a multitude of MFR techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self-treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, postural and movement awareness.
Each MFR session is performed directly on the skin without oils, creams or machines. This enables the physical therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate the reduction or elimination of pain due to fascial restrictions.
